Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is an integral aspect of life in the Senior School that not only ties in with the curriculum but also encourages students to develop their social and interpersonal skills, and make a positive contribution to the wider community.
Each student is supported by their Housemaster or Housemistress and tutor, who provide personalised pastoral care, academic guidance and mentoring. This team also offers help with organisation, wellbeing and decision-making during these crucial years.
Our vertical House system creates a supportive environment where students form friendships across year groups. In Years 10 and 11, students take on greater responsibility as role models to younger peers, while also benefiting from the mentorship of Sixth Form students in Years 12 and 13.
The health, safety and well-being of every child at JIS is our highest priority. Our well-equipped Health Centre is staffed by a team of qualified nurses who provide care for students during the school day. Beyond immediate care, the team also contributes to the wider well-being of the school community. A strong emphasis is also placed on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), ensuring that every child feels valued, respected and supported.
In addition, our regularly reviewed Child Protection Policy ensures that the school remains aligned with the latest laws and best practices in safeguarding.
