Pastoral Care

The Pastoral System in the Sixth Form is designed to offer students a healthy blend of friendly support and professional guidance. Each student works closely with their tutor, who collaborates with the Head of Senior School, Pastoral Director, Heads of Years 12 & 13 and Housemaster or Housemistress to provide a supportive environment.

Within our vertical House system, Sixth Form students take on meaningful leadership roles, serving as role models and mentors to younger students. Independence is encouraged and students are expected to rise to the responsibility placed in them, developing the confidence, maturity and self-management skills needed for life after JIS.

The health, safety and well-being of every child at JIS is our highest priority. Our well-equipped Health Centre is staffed by a team of qualified nurses who provide care for students during the school day. Beyond immediate care, the team also contributes to the wider well-being of the school community. A strong emphasis is also placed on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), ensuring that every child feels valued, respected and supported.

In addition, our regularly reviewed Child Protection Policy ensures that the school remains aligned with the latest laws and best practices in safeguarding.

The school also has a specialist team of Higher Education advisors to guide and prepare students for their university applications. Our expert team consists of experienced counsellors specialising in applications to universities in the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.

It also provides bespoke assistance for students applying to the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Ivy League institutions as well as any applications for medicine and law. Furthermore, the school runs a series of events such as University Fairs and Higher Education Evenings, which offer students the opportunity to connect with visiting universities and take inspiration from guest speakers.
