Curriculum

At JIS, students are offered a choice of three internationally recognised curriculum pathways, allowing them to follow a route that best suits their strengths: Advanced Levels (A Levels), the International Baccalaureate (IBDP) Diploma Programme or the BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media.

Advanced Levels

Advanced Levels (A Levels)

The A Levels is a two-year internationally-recognised programme. A Level students are able to select up to four subjects from a range of subjects on offer.

As well as studying at least three A Levels subjects, students have the opportunity to study three other elements:

A Global Issues course
An enrichment programme and a broadening qualification such as an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), a piece of independent, in-depth research equivalent to an AS Level
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): the world’s most popular English language test for higher education and global migration

IB Diploma Programme

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) requires students to study six subjects; three at Standard Level and three at Higher Level.

The IBDP aims to develop students who have an excellent breadth of knowledge. While studying a curriculum that includes languages, humanities, sciences, math and the arts.

Students will also complete:

A 4,000-word Extended Essay
A critical thinking course called Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
A service component known as Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma

BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media

The BTEC International Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media encompasses two modules: Exploring and Developing Creative Media Skills and Advancing Creative Practice.

The course revolves around a series of industry briefs and responding in a variety of creative ways. These include filmmaking, sound recording, publishing and web design.

The BTEC in Creative Media provides a good foundation for a range of degree courses including Media and Film Studies, Radio Production, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Graphic Design, Sound Engineering, Web Design and Business Studies.
