Senior School: IGCSE

All students in Years 10 and 11 will study the Core Subjects which are: English Language (and depending on level of English, also English Literature), Mathematics, Science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology) and a language (French, Spanish, Chinese, Malay as a foreign language or Bahasa Melayu – mother tongue Malay). In addition, the IGCSE students will choose a further three optional subjects. English as an Additional Language (EAL) is available to students, on a needs basis, in both mainstream classrooms and smaller groups. Download the IGCSE Booklet for full details.

Pastoral Care

The aim of our excellent pastoral care is to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. At Jerudong International School we care deeply about the wellbeing and happiness of each individual child. We work tirelessly to ensure that every student not only takes a full role in our thriving school community, but is also coached to ensure that they are equipped with all the skills necessary to succeed in the adult world. Critical to this journey is the relationship that each child has with their Housemaster/Housemistress or tutor. These people play a central role in each student’s development by providing individualised pastoral care, academic mentoring, organisational help, counselling as well as guidance in the form of Higher Education and career advice.

JIS Brunei’s ‘vertical’ House system allows students to make supportive friendships across a range of age groups. As members of the Senior School, students in Years 10 and 11 benefit not only from being given the responsibility of acting as role models for younger students in their Houses, but also from having the older students in Years 12 and 13 to look up to and work with directly.

At JIS Brunei we believe that students should come to school every day and try to challenge themselves in and beyond the classroom. We expect them to respect everyone and contribute towards a thriving, inclusive and accepting community. The goal of all this is to encourage each student to every day make their own ‘teaspoon of positive change’ and transfer the skills that they have learnt in school to make positive choices within the community around them.

Co-Curricular Activities

There are over 300 activity options on offer to IGCSE Students, from Debating to Diving, from Model United Nations to Masterchef, from Fencing to EcoJIS, from Chinese to Chemistry Club, and from Food to Fitness Training - there is something for everyone! The Bronze International Award (Duke of Edinburgh) is available to Year 10 students and Silver Award for Year 11 students. 

Our school is all about developing the whole person and CCAs form a vital part of that process. Seizing the opportunities that are available is a big part of making the most of your chances of success in the long run.
