IGCSE - A Day in the Life

Every morning starts with registration in our tutor groups. With students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 all mixing together in the same group, it’s a great chance to prepare for the day ahead, catch up with friends and learn from each other.

Geography at IGCSE encourages us to look beyond the classroom. Field trips within and beyond Brunei help us to understand the big issues that we will face in the years to come and how our ‘teaspoons of positive change’ can help solve them.

IGCSE Music encourages our creative side. The Apple Suite allows us the compose and perform in a professional environment. Music is not constrained to the classroom and at JIS there are opportunities to perform in a variety of different musical arenas, from jazz band, the JIS choir and the yearly musical.

Break time is all about catching up with our friends and taking some time to relax in between lessons. Whether it’s a game of table tennis or quiet time reading a book, there’s always plenty to do.

Mathematical knowledge is a key life skill. Maths at IGCSE is not just challenging, but it is also great fun. Our teachers allow us the independence to find our own ways to solve a problem. This makes finding the answer that much more satisfying!

Design Technology (DT) students at JIS have access to an array of modern equipment. DT lessons are a chance for us to put theory into practice and get hands-on experience of designing and making sustainable products that have great personal meaning to us.

The food in the Borneo Pasaar Canteen is always great. We have options from all over the world to suit every dietary requirement, and JIS uses a cashless system so our Campus Card is all we need to get our food. After lunch we can head off to a CCA or the regular House lunchtime performance.

Chemistry, Physics and Biology are compulsory for all students at IGCSE. 26 fully equipped Science Laboratories allow every one of us the time and space to carry out exciting experiments in order to discover the answers for ourselves.

English lessons are always a time for us to express our own opinions and engage in challenging issues. From analysing scenes from a play to acting out poems, there’s always something exciting going on.

There are so many options at JIS when it comes to after-school CCAs, but the Outdoor Discovery Centre is something completely unique to JIS. Students from across the school can be seen each afternoon planting flowers, making compost or creating a Green Business to produce our own sustainable good and services.

At JIS we are encouraged to develop all aspects of our learning. While there are loads of sports teams to get involved with, if sport is not your thing there are opportunities to take part in all kinds of drama or musical activities. These can be individual lessons or you can be a part of our yearly musical, straight play or musical extravaganzas!
