Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is an integral aspect of life in the Junior School that not only ties in with the curriculum but also encourages students to develop their social and interpersonal skills, and make a positive contribution to the wider community.
The classroom teacher is always on hand to nurture and support Junior School students, offering guidance on both academic and personal issues.
The Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme, supported by regular assemblies, encourages students to discuss any problems or social issues and come up with constructive solutions.
Strong peer and class support systems see older students team up with younger children to model good behaviour and offer guidance and advice. This not only provides positive role models for the younger children but also gives the older children an opportunity to develop their leadership skills.
The health, safety and well-being of every child at JIS is our highest priority. Our well-equipped Health Centre is staffed by a team of qualified nurses who provide care for students during the school day. Beyond immediate care, the team also contributes to the wider well-being of the school community. A strong emphasis is also placed on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), ensuring that every child feels valued, respected and supported.
In addition, our regularly reviewed Child Protection Policy ensures that the school remains aligned with the latest laws and best practices in safeguarding.
