Sustainability
We inspire our students to develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment, empowering them to become the changemakers of tomorrow. Students are provided with vast opportunities to put their knowledge of sustainability to practice.

Here at Jerudong International School (JIS) in Brunei, we try to go beyond a traditional education experience by incorporating sustainable practices into our curriculum, resources and our school environment.
JIS holds the Global Eco-Schools Green Flag Award for our Outdoor Discovery Centre (ODC), a 10,000m2 space being reforested on our campus. The ODC has acted as an outdoor classroom showcasing student-led projects such as rewilding, gardens, stingless bee hives, eco-art, composting food waste and rainwater harvesting tanks.
Other initiatives include producing toilet paper from recycled paper, developing student-led projects such as a plastic shredder and growing herbs in the Junior School Edible Garden. The JIS Reef Ball Programme allows students to contribute to coral reef restoration, while the House Forest Levels Award encourages all 16 Senior Houses to lead environmental activities.
With our on-going mission to enhance sustainability, JIS became Brunei's first school to undertake a major solar installation and integrate a comprehensive solar energy system, highlighting the school’s commitment to modelling environmentally friendly behaviour and leading by example.
Through these initiatives, we hope to showcase that ‘sustainability’ is not just a buzzword; it's an integral part of our ethos. As we remain committed to this, we aim to continue sowing the seeds of a greener and more sustainable future – one student, one project and one action at a time.
